How to use PuTTY - Its *REALLY* not hard.
Right. First of all, grab putty. I've got a copy on my server here, or
from here
The best thing to do, is to save it to disk (and make sure you can
find it), or, when asked what to do, use the option 'Run this program from
it's current location'. The program will start up automatically using the
second option.
When you start PuTTY, you'll get the following screen.

Now, fill in the hostname (example here is jimmygulp.co.uk), and then
select the protocol, (again, in this example, I am using SSH).

When you've done that, click on Open to start.
You'll get the following screen if you haven't connected to this host
before -

PuTTY is just letting you know that you haven't connected to this computer
before. So it is safe enough to click on Yes.
Note: If you've connected to this computer using PuTTY before
and you get this message, just email the owner of this computer to make
sure everything is alright. ;)
You'll end up with the following screen -
You can now type in your username and when prompted, your password.
Now you can use the system as though you had just used telnet to
connect, but with the knowlegde that you're more secure. :)
Thats about it. Have fun. -- James.
